On Saturday June 7, 2008, RHYTHM, Inc.
organized a women’s basic self-defense
workshop in New York City with Sifu Alex
of City Wing Tsun Martial Arts School in
Manhattan. The workshop was created
specifically for South Asian immigrant
women. The purpose of this workshop was
to teach women the basic self-defense
skills to protect themselves against any
attempted attack.
The women were equipped with a variety
of simple and effective strategies to
deal with violent or aggressive
situations at home, the work place,
malls, parking lots, etc. Both members
and non-members of RHYTHM who
participated in the workshop say that
they found it extremely helpful in
preparing them to fight-back against
physical attacks. In their words, it was
an “empowering experience.”
