Sudhir Mishra's last film KHOYA KHOYA CHAND, in which
he tried to re-create the Golden era of Bollywood,
received good reviews for its style and realistic
feel. Close on the heels of his next film TERA KYA
HOGA JOHNNY, Sudhir Mishra in a candid chat.
So, what do you have to say about the way KHOYA KHOYA
CHAND was received?
Well, I'm glad that people loved the film for which I
had put in so much of research. It's about being
creative, it's about the various problems, it's about
sexual politics, it's about being young and ambitious
and it's about making mistakes. We finally managed to
re-create the Golden era of Bollywood in such a
convincing style. I believe the credit for the films
success goes to all the people associated with it.
A lot of critics were of the opinion that the film
could have done better with a different star cast.
I won't agree with that fact. I think Shiney and Soha
perfectly fitted the bill and their performance has
surely been one of the high points of the film.
Why is it that you make films after such long gaps? I
mean your last film HAZARON KHAWAISHEN and KHOYA KHOYA
had a long gap in between?
Well, I believe as a filmmaker I have to feel for the
subject before I start working on it. It took me time
to decide on my subject after HAZARON KHAWAISHEN and
once KHOYA KHOYA came my way it all just got started.
The movie was earlier titled BAHUT NIKLE MERE ARMAAN.
What made you change the title to KHOYA KHOYA CHAND?
No, I changed the title because people thought it was
a sequel to HAZARON KHAWAISHEN AISI. BAHUT NIKLE MERE
ARMAAN is from the same couplet as HAZARON KHAWAISHEN
AISI. However, it has nothing to do with HAZARON. That
was a political film; this is a film about suffocating
in ecstasy.
You are making another film with Soha Ali, has she
become your favourite now?
Yeah, Soha is surely an actress of great calibre. My
next film TERA KYA HOGA JOHNNY will feature her along
with Neil Mukesh. The film is quite different in its
subject treatment when you compare it with KHOYA KHOYA
CHAND and HAZARON KHAWAHISHEN. I can't divulge more
about it at the moment.
You are also remaking DEVDAS. Do you think the
audience would have an overdose of DEVDAS films?
I hope not, mine is not exactly the same DEVDAS, which
has been already made. My film is about politics. Its
about supposing Devdas has a political linage and when
he comes back from England after studying, he claims
political responsibility because his mother is the
chief minister of a state and she is in trouble.
