The Bhatt land manages to be in the news every now n
then through their bold, courageous films, films
dealing with an unusual engagement with the
psychological damage arising from infringement of
social norms, situations which are characteristic deep
mental/emotion damage and trauma, stories influenced
from real life situations, characters, heart touching
(heartfelt) subjects. Their genre of movies have
always been unique, out of the box, they are the
pioneers to showcase luculent stories, characters,
serious films demanding strong performances, that
created a niche audience. Thrills, sex, romance,
social issues, complex relationships are the
ingredients of their movies, which are dealt in
sublime manner. Their movie traces and excavates the
root cause of any issue, relationships, and trauma and
surmounts a gallant approach in a fantabulous manner.
They are not fussy in expressing their ideas. And the
same will be witnessed in the upcoming flick SHOWBIZ.
In conversation with Mahesh Bhatt
1) Is the story of SHOWBIZ inspired by any specific
reality show?
A No, not in particular. Ya but it is definitely
inspired by the current trend on television industry
of reality shows. Our film is not just confined to
reality shows; reality show is just a medium to
showcase the true picture of today's media (the
paparazzi segment of journalism). SHOWBIZ highlights
the negative side of fame. Fame is not always sugary,
we have tried to show the other (dark) side of fame
and Roses always come with thorns.
2) Why a subject on yellow journalism? Are you angry
with media?
A- we are not angry with media. We are here to make
films and create new types of villains hidden in the
society (hidden behind the curtains and who play all
the dirty games). We are not against media. There are
good and bad aspects in media, good people and bad
people in media, we have just tried to convey how
paparazzi are growing fast in this industry. It tries
to convey that once you become a star how that star
becomes a commodity for media. JOB OF A REPORTER IS TO
REPORT AND NOT CREATE FALSE STORIES.
3) Raju khan, director of SHOWBIZ, is a
choreographer-turned-director, what do you have to say
about Raju as a director?
A- Yes, he's talented and a good person too. He solely
handled and headed the creative aspect of the film.
Our assistance was always there whenever he required.
4) We also heard that there were some issues between
Mukesh Bhatt and director Raju Khan? Is that resolved?
A- Yes, you are right. There were issues between
Mukesh and Raju. I even tried to resolve but couldn't.
We all work as a family, treat everyone as our family
and which family doesn't have disputes and
misunderstandings, since we are part of media we get
exposed.
5) You always give chance to newcomers. Why the Bhatts
refrain from taking established ones? When will
existing stars get opportunity to work with Bhatt's?
A- we are not restricting ourselves to cast
established ones, if the script requires casting the
existing ones, we'll definitely cast them. Creating
and establishing new people is far more enjoying these
days. It is fun to work with new entrants, groom,
train and establish them.
6) You also sent Tushar and Mrinalini to acting
worshops?
A- yes, Tushar and Mrinalini attended 3 months acting
worskshop at Anupam Khers acting institute, which we
paid for (laughs). I think every actor before getting
into acting (or before starting) should get a hang on
film culture. Even Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan assisted
before entering into acting, this builds up their
camera confidence, judgment in facing camera, the
technical know-how. In short it gives a practical
exposure towards acting.
7) Forthcoming films
A- Pooja is coming up with new movie which is under
production KAJRARA RE. I am writing for the film, this
will be shot in Morocco and Pakistan. Another film,
which is coming up is JANNAT starring Imran Hashmi for
which announcements will be made in January. The story
deals with the betting world of cricket.
