She impressed us all with her portrayal of a disturbed
alcoholic in Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster. Now Kangana
Ranaut has a number of biggies, like a three movie
deal with UTV, in her kitty. She is all set to enact
the character of Parveen Babi in the forthcoming Woh
Lamhe.
Firstly tell us something about your forthcoming
film Woh Lamhe.
Woh Lamhe is releasing on 28th September. The music is
already out. It is mind blowing and doing very well.
The songs have gotten a good response. It is loosely
based on a very big actress of Bollywood, Parveen Babi.
I think everyone is aware of that. It is basically a
love story between a struggling director and a very
famous actress. Shiney plays the director and I play
the actress. This movie is about all those beautiful
moments in life.
Was it difficult to enact the role of Parveen Babi?
See, nothing is easy. Whenever I think something is
very easy, I mess it up. For this role, I had always
thought that it was difficult. I got such an intense
role in Gangster. I knew that I would have to work
very hard and I did. But I enjoy that. If something is
so easy that I don't have to work at all, I don't
enjoy it.
Apart from Parveen Babi's life, is it also inspired
from Mahesh Bhatt's Arth?
That's not true. Everything can be seen from a
different perspective. This is just a love story
between a director and actress. We have made Woh Lamhe
from that perspective. It is not similar to Arth at
all.
Shiney is your co-star again. Is he the same Shiney
from Gangster or is he different?
He's the same Shiney. There is no reason for him to be
different.
Is it true that you guys could not see eye to eye?
That not true. Even if we had a fight, why would I
tell you?
Shaad is making his debut in this film. Did you
pick on him since you're a senior?
I'm also a newcomer and a learner. I don't feel like a
senior. The day I feel like a senior. I'll start
behaving like one. As of now, I don't!
Pritam who did Gangster has scored once again for
Woh Lamhe. The music of Gangster rocked. Tell us about
the music of Woh Lamhe
You must have heard the songs. The music is rocking. I
think the songs of Woh Lamhe are four steps further
than Gangster. The film has beautiful songs.
Have you moved out of the Bhatt camp?
No I haven't. They make such good and different films.
One gets a lot of scope for performing in their films.
And of course, they have great music. Their directors
like Mohit Suri and Anurag Basu are so talented. I
don't have any reason to move out of the Bhatt camp.
Vishesh Films has been like family to me.
Tell us about your three film deal with UTV.
One will be directed by Anurag Basu. The directors for
the other two have still not been decided. It could be
David Dhawan or Madhur Bhandarkar. I haven't got time
to hear the scripts. I'll go for whichever script I
like.
Tell us about Metro.
I have just started that with Anurag. It is a UTV
film.
Are you also doing Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking?
I don't want to talk about it before I sign it.
What is your ideal role?
I don't really get excited doing something, someone
has already done before. Good scripts with challenging
characters excite me more, rather than doing a Paro.
The things that have already been done don't excite
me.
Who is your favorite from amongst all the old
actresses?
Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari and Madhubala! They had a
different charm and beauty. I also like Hema Malini,
Rekha and Parveen Babi. Every actress has something
special about her.
Which is your all time favorite Hindi movie?
Andaz Apna Apna! I can watch it any number of times!
Before Gangster, you had signed I Love You Boss.
Tell us about that.
I had signed it, but it could not get made. A lot of
times, films in the industry are left incomplete. I
left it within fifteen days of signing it, because of
some problems.
Is it true that you didn't want to work opposite
Shatrughan Sinha?
When I signed the film, Amitabh Bachchan was opposite
me. After three months, when I was busy with Gangster,
they approached me again. But then I was busy with
Gangster.
